Krabi packs an extraordinary amount into one province: more than 200 islands, jungle waterfalls, cliff-top temples, hot springs and some of the best rock climbing in the world. After years of guiding visitors here, these are the things to do in Krabi we genuinely recommend, grouped so you can build the trip that suits you, whether that is island days, jungle adventures, or a relaxed mix of both.
1. Go island hopping
This is the headline experience and the one we send almost every first-timer on. Krabi sits on the Andaman Sea fringed by limestone islands, and the classic 4 Island Tour takes in Poda Island, Chicken Island, the Tup Island sandbar and Phra Nang Cave Beach in a single day by longtail or speedboat. For something further afield, day trips run to the famous Phi Phi Islands and the quieter Hong Islands with their hidden lagoon. We cover the beaches themselves in our guide to the best beaches in Krabi.
2. Visit Railay and watch (or try) the rock climbing
Reachable only by boat, the Railay peninsula is one of the world’s great rock-climbing destinations, with hundreds of bolted routes on its limestone cliffs and operators offering beginner sessions. Even if you never touch the rock, Railay West and Phra Nang beach are stunning, and watching climbers scale the cliffs above the sand is a spectacle in itself.
3. Climb the Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea)
For one of the most rewarding views in southern Thailand, take on the Tiger Cave Temple. The climb to the summit is a serious set of steep steps (over 1,200 of them, around a 300-metre ascent), so go early before the heat. At the top, a golden Buddha and a 360-degree panorama over Krabi’s cliffs and plains make every step worth it. Bring water and respectful temple dress.
4. Cool off at the Emerald Pool and Blue Pool
Inland in the Thung Teao Forest Natural Park, the Emerald Pool is a jungle-fed natural swimming hole in glowing green water, reached by a short forest trail where you may spot birds and butterflies. Nearby, the Blue Pool is an even more vivid (but no-swimming) spring. It is a refreshing half-day away from the beach.
5. Soak in the Krabi Hot Springs
In the Khlong Thom district, around 35 minutes from Krabi Town, the Krabi Hot Springs are mineral-rich natural pools and small “jacuzzis” set in rainforest, with water around 35 to 42°C. Pair them with the Emerald Pool, which is close by, for a classic jungle day trip.
6. Explore Krabi Town and its Night Market
Krabi Town is more local and laid-back than the beach resorts, and a great place to eat. The Krabi Town Walking Street Night Market runs Friday to Sunday from around 4pm: street food, satay skewers, local sweets, crafts and live music. While in town, the riverside temple Wat Kaeo Korawaram and its grand white staircase are worth a look.
7. See local life on Ko Klang
Just across the river from Krabi Town, Ko Klang is a Muslim fishing-community island with no cars in the traditional sense, batik workshops, rice fields and a genuinely local rhythm. A bike or longtail tour here is a quiet antidote to the busier attractions and a window into everyday Krabi.
8. Other Krabi experiences worth your time
- Sea kayaking through the mangroves and sea caves at Ao Thalane or Bor Thor.
- Snorkelling and diving off the islands, with excellent visibility in high season.
- An ethical elephant experience, choose a genuine sanctuary that does not offer riding.
- Sunset longtail cruises from Ao Nang or Nopparat Thara.
- Thai cooking classes and local food tours for a taste you can take home.

Frequently asked questions
What is the number one thing to do in Krabi?
Island hopping. The 4 Island Tour (Poda, Chicken Island, the Tup sandbar and Phra Nang Cave Beach) is the classic Krabi day out, with Phi Phi and the Hong Islands as popular alternatives.
Is the Tiger Cave Temple worth the climb?
Yes, if you are reasonably fit. It is over 1,200 steep steps, but the 360-degree summit view over Krabi is among the best in southern Thailand. Go early to beat the heat and dress respectfully.
What can you do in Krabi besides the beach?
Plenty: the Emerald Pool and Blue Pool, Krabi Hot Springs, the Tiger Cave Temple, Krabi Town Night Market, Ko Klang village, sea kayaking through mangroves and sea caves, and ethical elephant experiences.
How many days should I spend in Krabi?
Three to four days covers the highlights (an island day, Railay, and a jungle day trip). Five or more lets you add Phi Phi or Hong Islands and explore Krabi Town and quieter beaches.
When is the best time to visit Krabi?
November to March is high season, with the calmest seas and best conditions for islands and beaches. The green season (roughly June to October) is quieter and cheaper but wetter.
