The short version: November to March is the classic best time for sunshine and calm seas, with November our quiet favourite. But the green season has real upsides too, if you know what to expect.
Krabi’s three seasons at a glance
- High / dry season (November to March): sunny, calm seas, best for beaches and islands, busiest and priciest.
- Hot season (April to May): very hot, still mostly dry early on, fewer crowds before the rains build.
- Green / wet season (roughly June to October): the southwest monsoon brings rain, cheapest prices and lush scenery, with September and October the wettest.
One thing that does not change much: the heat. Krabi stays warm year-round, with average highs hovering around 31 to 34°C in every month.
High season: November to March (the classic best time)
This is when Krabi looks like the postcards: blue skies, calm Andaman seas, and reliable conditions for the 4 Island Tour, Phi Phi, and Railay. It is also peak tourism, so book accommodation and tours ahead.
- November, our quiet pick. The monsoon has eased, the landscape is still green, and the December crowds have not arrived yet. Often the sweet spot.
- December and January, peak of peak. Gorgeous weather, but the busiest and most expensive, and you will want reservations well in advance.
- February and March, still excellent and slightly calmer than the holiday peak. A great all-round choice.
Hot season: April to May
April and May are the hottest months, and April brings the famous Songkran (Thai New Year) water festival. Early in this window the weather is usually still good and crowds thin out after the high-season rush, which can mean better value. Just be ready for strong heat and the first build-up toward the rains.
Green season: June to October
Don’t write off the rainy season. The typical pattern is short, heavy downpours with plenty of sunshine in between, not all-day rain. June, July and August are often pleasant and far quieter, and prices for villas and tours drop noticeably. The trade-offs: the sea can be choppier (some island trips may be cancelled on rough days), and September and October are the wettest months, so pack a rain jacket.
If you want lush jungle, empty beaches, lower prices, and a more local feel, and you are flexible about the odd washed-out afternoon, the green season can be wonderful value.
